Welcome to Te Pua a Tāne, The Whirinaki Rainforest - a majestic, ancient, and spiritual realm.
Welcome to Te Pua a Tāne, The Whirinaki Rainforest - a majestic, ancient, and spiritual realm.
Ngāti Manawa ancestors have been sustained by this forest for centuries –by its beauty, spiritual presence, and its bounty – of food, spring water and traditional medicine.
Our whānau returned home to Murupara in 2013 so we might raise our two children on whenua (land) they whakapapa (family connection) to.
We share an immersive Māori encounter with the rainforest, as seen through Ngāti Manawa eyes, over half or full day guided walks. Journeying to the heart of this Jurassic, podocarp rain forest, is to journey into the realm of Tāne (divine forest realm).
We also offer overnight stays at our family owned Kohutapu Lodge, Lake Aniwhenua.
All elements of our visitor experiences are regenerative, supporting our community and iwi and maintaining kaitiakitanga (care for) our environment. We were awarded Aotearoa tourism’s most prestigious award, the Regenerative Tourism Award 2022, in recognition of our work in these spaces.
